BMC secures funding to promote mobile technology skills within local industry

03/08/2010

Belfast Metropolitan College (BMC) has secured DEL funding to promote and develop mobile technology skills within local industry as part of a wider multi-college Innovation Fund Project headed by Southern Regional College.

As part of the project, BMC will assist companies gain skills to develop their presence on the "Mobile Internet". This will be achieved by promoting Open Mobile Web technologies, offering companies a "mobile-accessibility" audit of their existing Internet website and providing focussed mentoring to up-skill key employee(s) responsible for the company's website. These services will be provided free to the company.

In addition, BMC will develop three new introductory mobile technology programmes, in:

  • Mobile Website Development
  • iPhone App Development
  • Android App Development

Momentum and Digital Circle fully supports the programmes and have worked with BMC to ensure the syllabus meets the needs of industry through seeking input from interested companies. These companies will participate in the free pilot delivery of the programmes which are most relevant to their business needs.

The project will be officially launched by BMC and Momentum/Digital Circle in mid September.
