27/01/2012
Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) is the agency responsible for economic development in Northern Ireland. Operating at arm’s length from government, Invest NI is a public body that provides a flexible, efficient and comprehensive service to businesses.
Through its support for innovation and entrepreneurship, Invest NI is working to create a larger base of world-class companies in Northern Ireland – both locally and externally owned.
Within Invest NI, the international marketing team is responsible for promoting Northern Ireland as a location for new inward investment by companies located outside of Northern Ireland. Through its network of overseas offices, Invest Northern Ireland promotes its key selling messages within the target sectors of ICT, financial services, professional and business services, and renewables. Invest NI has offices in London, Dublin, Brussels, Mumbai, New York, Boston and San Jose.
Northern Ireland has had considerable success in attracting new inward investment into the region. In 2010/11, Invest NI secured 816 new jobs from 41 inward investment projects, with 81 per cent paying above the Northern Ireland private sector average, including 51 per cent paying at least 25 per cent above the private sector average. First time international investors included Dow Chemical, Allen & Overy, Mercer, Heritage, Herbert Smith and Rigney Dolphin. Invest NI has challenging targets for its next corporate plan and its focus will align with the Northern Ireland Executive’s desire to re-balance and re-build the Northern Ireland economy.
