07/10/2009

Newtownabbey-based Northgate Managed Services announces that it has secured more than £100m of new contracts  in the last 6months.

Northgate Managed Services, an Invest Northern Ireland client company, and one of the largest IT services providers in Northern Ireland, has secured a number of new contracts, including an ICT and Business Process Outsourcing contract with Viridian, an extension with C2k to provide further ICT services to secondary schools in Northern Ireland and an ICT outsourcing contract with Northern Ireland Water. Using Northern Ireland as a near-shore delivery centre, Northgate is continuing to export skills and expertise to help secure contracts in other parts of the UK, and has won new business in the Local Government market with Hartlepool, Greenwich and North Lanarkshire councils, and in the Education Sector with 5 new Academies.

Andy Ross, Chief Executive of Northgate Managed Services said: “As a result of tough trading conditions due to the global economic downturn we set ourselves three key objectives at the start of the year; delivering financial results to our shareholders, fulfilling delivery commitments to our customers and protecting the jobs of our permanent employees.  It is very pleasing that we have achieved all these objectives; strengthening our business winning over £100m in new contracts, increasing our order book by 85% to £185m and developing a sales pipeline in excess of £200m.  In addition we are at preferred bidder stage on business worth a further £60m, and expect to sign these contracts over the next four months.

Andy Ross, Chief Executive of Northgate Managed Services is joined by Mayor of Newtownabbey Borough Council, Alderman John Scott and Invest Northern Ireland
Chief Executive, Alastair Hamilton as Northgate announced significant contract wins totalling more than £100m.

“We continue to be committed to Northern Ireland as a Centre of Excellence and our recent successes are testament to our ability to compete and win, in particular against strong off-shore competition, proving that Northern Ireland can be a credible and viable near-shore alternative.

“Not withstanding the tough economic conditions we are continuing to invest significantly to expand our business activities which is vital if we are to continue to deliver value to our customers, long term career opportunities for our employees and profitable sustainable growth for our shareholders.

Congratulating Northgate Managed Services on its recent successes Alastair Hamilton, Chief Executive Invest NI said: “Northgate Managed Services is a key player in the growing IT and business services sector, employing more than 1000 staff in the UK, 500 of which are based in Northern Ireland. Over the past 12 months, the company has engaged in a major drive to renew existing and win new contracts, which has resulted in more than £100 million of additional business.

“This is a remarkable achievement for Northgate Managed Services at a time when many companies continue to experience difficulties in the current economic climate and I commend their clear drive and determination to succeed. It demonstrates how market challenges can be overcome if a company invests in its people, products and services, and remains focused on targeting new opportunities.”
